The project was kick started when Peter Garrett offered his Ford Model A for loan. This began the pilot scheme on which the project has been built.
The car was put on loan to Richard Gordon-Colebrooke who wanted to drive an older classic having restored a Mini in his youth.
On first getting the car he said, “With summer in full swing I’ve been lucky in only needing to put the roof up on one occasion – and as it turned out it wasn’t needed! My first few outings consisted of mostly local trips – dog walks, runs out with friends. I quickly realised I was going to get waves, smiles and thumbs up wherever I went! Not many cars draw as much positive attention from passers by as the Ford – which is lovely.
I try and take the car out as often as I can. She’s performed brilliantly so far – no sign of any trouble brewing. I’ve kept her nicely topped up with oil, fuel and water and have greased the chassis (30+ points!) once so far. People always laugh at my phone holder I’ve installed behind the steering wheel. It’s my ‘modern addition’ for maps and speedo!
Peter James Insurance gave me a voucher towards the cost of insurance which they put in place and even adding my wife as an additional driver! The Model A Ford Club of GB gave me membership too.
Richard thoroughly enjoyed the experience thanks to the loan project and will be looking for an older classic very soon…
